In the early 1900's, Cai Shengbai traveled as a government scholar to the US. Upon his return to Shanghai in 1919, he brought back the modern management techniques and progressive social values learned during his time abroad and ultimately transformed the Chinese silk industry.
His son-in-law, Y.L. Yang, would start a company based on these same values in 1978 in China. His goal? To raise the standards of living of his workers and produce the finest garments through a vertical supply chain.
Bringing together the homonyms 派 and "π", PYE was created in 1984 to build upon the vision and values of these two men in the pursuit of the perfect dress shirt.
The ultimate shirt required the best materials and processes, from beginning to end. This is why in the 1990's, we started to research and farm our own cotton in Xinjiang, China. With a modern yet elegant edge, we look both towards our processes and your preferences as we design and manufacture. We gin the cotton and spin the yarn with only the finest selection of Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton. We go on to weave our own fabrics, and finally, we cut and sew our patterns. The result is a shirt made entirely by us, for you.
We care deeply about the quality of our products, the people responsible for making those products, and the communities where our products are made and sold – always. We're constantly striving to improve how we work for the betterment of our people and our product.
Our commitment to quality and process is reflected in our product, with an obsessive attention to detail and simple yet functional design. We strive for timeless, sophisticated style. The PYE shirt that makes its wearer's lives better.
It was the exploration of different industries and cultures that formed the foundation of PYE, and that same intellectual curiosity continues to drive us today. Science, art, literature, film, travel — we believe that constant exploration leads to better business, better products and better people.
